Addressing The Helplessness Epidemic in Business

"I'm too busy," said the account manager.
"What!" "You're an account manager; you're meant to be busy! It's your job to be busy."

We hear this conversation frequently among the businesses we are currently working with. Staff indicating they are busy or unsure of what to do next. This behavior is known and scientifically understood and falls under Seligman's theory of learned helplessness. When people believe that outcomes are uncontrollable, they fail to take action.

It goes some way to understanding why learned behavior can result in a drastic change in behavior where individuals begin to accept a situation and remain passive in negative situations despite their clear ability to change them.

We understand that many people are fatigued by the constantly changing world; lockdowns, rule changes, employment insecurity, fluctuations in staffing, and product availability, for example. But by bringing business teams together to reset goals, reaffirm the company or departmental vision, and build cohesion amongst them, the apathy to do something is reduced.

Base Camp is the perfect program to rebuild the belief in the vision and the roles of individuals to achieve it. It will demonstrate that there is hope after a crisis. It can shine a light on the tactical path required. There is joy and confidence that we can get going again.

Let us help you realign your vision, show your team they're OK and have done well shouldering the storm. The summit is still the same; we need to focus and set what we do next and realign ourselves to our vision of success.
